Botox® is FDA approved for severe underarm sweating when topical agents do not work.  Botulinum toxin (commonly known as Botox®) is a natural, purified protein with the ability to interrupt the chemical messages released by nerve endings. By temporarily blocking the chemical signals from the nerves that stimulate the sweat glands the sweating stops.

The procedure is relatively straightforward and does not usually
require any restrictions in work or leisure activity (aside from

refraining from intensive exercise or the use of a sauna on the day of the injections). A small volume of Botox®) solution is injected into the affected underarm through a very fine needle.  The needle is placed just under the skin, so you may experience some injection related discomfort.  You will receive multiple injections based on your assessment of the area that needs to be treated.

Patients should notice a significant reduction in underarm sweating within 4 weeks of your first treatment.  There is a possibility that some sweat glands may be missed, and you may continue to experience some sweating from the untreated areas.  If you do not see a significant reduction in sweating, please contact our office.
Follow-up injections to maintain the antiperspirant effect are necessary. These repeat injections may be required at intervals and vary from patient to patient.

Side effects include injection-site pain and bleeding, non-underarm sweating, infection, sore, flu, headache, fever, neck or back pain, itching and anxiety.  Patients with certain neuromuscular disorders should not receive treatment due to increased risk of serious side effects.
